•  Q What process would a typical piece of equipment go through in refurbishment? 

To begin with the machine is stripped down and evaluated for which new parts are required. Then, depending on what the machine is, the paintwork is prepared for spraying or powder coating and then it is painted. Once this is dry, the machine is built back together, with new parts fitted, both standard parts during a refurbishment and extras as required. Once built, the machine is run/used vigorously and undergoes our Peakbody multi point check to ensure the machine is fully functional ! 

• Q What are the savings that can be made when buying refurbished to new? 

The savings can be massive if you know what you are looking to purchase; often refurbished equipment is over 70% cheaper than brand new equipment. Just make sure the equipment you purchase has warranty and the supplier has a credible after-sales department.

•  Q What are the common pitfalls consumers should be aware of when buying refurbished equipment? 

The most common “negative” associated with the refurbished market is the worry that kit will “break down” shortly after purchase. If you buy from a recognised refurbished supplier, such as Peakbody/Global Fitness, there are certain aspects of the purchase that can alleviate this worry. For example, you can view our equipment before and after refurbishment, to see what exactly has been done. Be wary of suppliers who claim to sell “fully refurbished” equipment but in fact do the very minimum to the equipment before it is sold, the old “spit and polish” routine. The easiest way to tell if you are buying genuine refurbished products is the amount of warranty you receive with the equipment and how keen the supplier is to offer an after sales service. At Peakbody Fitness we offer 12 months parts and labour warranty on all fully refurbished equipment we sell and we are always on hand to offer advice during or after the warranty period has expired.

We offer extended warranties and Service Contracts on our refurbished equipment and have no problem in covering our work for longer than the standard 12 months.

Factory Remanufactured... what is Remanufactured?

The equipment available through this program has been pre-selected from GFIs / Global Fitness / Peakbody  inventory of used products based on strict eligibility criteria that include performance history and condition. For those machines in excellent condition, a reconditioning process is employed. In other cases, a more extensive remanufacturing process is applied using additional parts, which results in a like new machine. Regardless of the process, all units are reconditioned or remanufactured using our carefully controlled -certified process to help meet high customer performance expectations at low price points.

Chassis Tear Down and Cleaning
Before delivery to the production area, all equipment undergoes a disassembly and cleaning process. Panels are removed and undergo repair and refinishing. Major sub-assemblies such as motors, rollers, electronics, etc. are removed from the main frame. After disassembly, both the chassis and sub-components of each machine are cleaned using an air-lance dust removal technique followed by hand-cleaning. Once cleaned, the chassis and associated sub-assemblies are sent our painting facility for sandblasted and re-powdercoated (a baked paint process, same a new) and staged for movement to the production line. 




  

Initial Production Stage
Upon entering the production area, each machine and its respective subassemblies are further disassembled and cleaned. New parts and certain factory modifications are installed. Parts are divided into two categories, either mandatory or optional. Mandatory parts include those parts that have been deemed high attrition based on field usage. Optional parts are those items showing wear after careful examination. Static adjustments such as clearances, belt tensions, etc. are made. After the completion of work in a given station, the unit or subassembly undergoes an in-process audit, before traveling to the next process step.

Checklists are designed to ensure that critical adjustments and assembly points are performed properly, avoiding problems later in the process or in the field. In-process audits are documented and retained as quality records in our system.

Final Production Stage
The reassembled unit is powered up and initial testing begins. Activities in this area include electrical troubleshooting and adjustment, performance quality and integrity testing, and final assembly of items such as panels and labels/decals/stickers. During this final production stage, a technician will runs/use the machine and adjustments are made, and any anomalies that may surface are corrected.

Final Inspection
After release from the production area, our independent quality assurance group inspects all the equipment. This is a three-step process, involving careful visual inspection of cosmetic appearance, so the units will appear new. The first step involves a visual inspection. This is done to identify any obvious cosmetic imperfections. The second step involves a review of general operations and running/testing the machines to observe any mechanical problems. The final physical testing and quality inspection is conducted so that the machine(s) can be moved into the packaging area. Any problems found are repaired, root cause analysis is performed and corrective action is taken. This inspection process is updated and improved as knowledge is gained.

Serialization & Final Packaging
Before final release, all machines are issued with new serial numbers which are subsequently entered into our database with all information pertaining to the unit stored and this is stored on file. Finally the machines are packaged in GFIs generic boxes/crates which have been designed and based on those that the manufacturers use. This packaging has been designed and developed to ensure that every machine that leave our distribution center arrived at its ultimate destination in perfect condition.
